Serial Communications

Serial is a device communication protocol that is a standard on almost every Personal Computer. It is the process of sending data one bit at a time, sequentially, over a communiction channel or computer bus. Serial communication is a 'physical layer protocol' of the OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) Model.

Innovative Energies Power Supplies include a RS-232 and RS-485 serial port setup and can be used for communication purposes using a serial cable. The real time data is transmitted using a serial connection to the Power supply unit.

Our engineers use serial communications to tranmit ASCII data. This communication is done using three transmission lines - Ground, Transmit and Recieve.
